Devote Yourselves & Build the Church

In speaking to the leaders of Israel, King David gave them an order in 1 Chronicles 22:19

1 Chronicles 22:19 Now devote your heart and soul to seeking the Lord your God. Begin to build the sanctuary of the Lord God, so that you may bring the ark of the covenant of the Lord and the sacred articles belonging to God into the temple that will be built for the Name of the Lord.

This verse has two parts. The first part, David told the leaders of Israel to spend time with God. David knew the importance of having a relationship with God. It was through his devotion and relationship with God, that David was appointed King over Israel.

As Christians, we are leaders in the modern church. That is why it is so important for us to devote our heart and soul to seeking the Lord our God. Just like King David, it's through our devotion and relationship with God, that God calls us to the place where he would like us to serve.

The second part is to get started building. Solomon, David’s son, was who God chose to build the Temple. David wanted his son to succeed. Therefore, he did everything he possibly could to make sure that Solomon had everything necessary to get the job done. That’s why he told the leaders of the time to start building the Temple. He didn’t want them to stand idly by and not help with the preparations necessary to get the Temple built.

When it comes to our Churches today, we have to do everything in our power to make sure that the church is being built. That means that we don’t just show up to hear a sermon. We are to be involved in every aspect necessary to see our churches thrive and succeed. If we don’t do our part now, then the preparations our children need us to make for them to succeed in the church after we are gone will not be there.
